Venus Transit

Venus transit

On June 6, 2012, Venus passed between Earth and the Sun. I had two telescopes set up for this event. The first captured the face of the sun with the silhouette of Venus. The second imaged a single frequency of red light, revealing the granular detail of the solar surface and the prominences seen in the lower right. The next time this transit takes place will be in December of 2117. As I would be 140 years old at the time, this is quite literally the shot(s) of a lifetime. Though somewhat crude in a technical sense, this picture stoked my interest in astrophography, and remains my all-time favorite.
